The reality is that the vast majority of uncircumcised boys have no difficulties, and the chance of needing circumcision for medical reasons later in life is small.

[A spaza shop is an informal convenience shop business in
South Africa, usually run from home. They also serve the purpose of
supplementing household incomes of the owners, selling everyday small household
items.]
Close
to 490 boys have died in initiation schools in three provinces in the past six
years and a further 455,628 were hospitalised because of circumcision-related
complications, an investigation has revealed.
These
findings are contained in a report, released by the Commission for the
Protection and Promotion of the Rights of Cultural, Religious and Linguistic
Communities in Joburg today.
The
report, titled Public Hearings on Initiation Schools in SA shows that boys as
young as 12 died of dehydration, septicaemia,
gangrene, kidney failure and assault during initiation.
The
investigation focused on three provinces – the Eastern Cape, Mpumalanga and
Limpopo – where traditional circumcision is an important cultural practice.
The
Eastern Cape had the highest number of deaths between 2008 and 2013 – at 401.
Mpumalanga followed, with 67 deaths and Limpopo recorded 18 deaths.
Many
of the deaths recorded in the Eastern Cape happened in 2009 (91) and last year,
when 83 boys died. Mpumalanga also saw a spike during the same years. In 2009,
the province recorded 15 deaths and last year the figure shot up to 42.
Commission
chairperson Thoko Mkhwanazi-Xaluva said the probe revealed a number of factors
that led to the increase in the number of initiate deaths, but the biggest was
the commercialisation of the practice by bogus surgeons.
“Many
of the illegal [traditional] surgeons are not trained and have no idea what
they are doing,” she said.
“All
they care about is money. To them, the practice is like running a spaza shop.
They mushroom during the circumcision seasons, make money and go underground
after that.”

THE VAGINA AND THE PENIS.
The Vagina and the Penis:
Two organs which the male imagination focuses on.
As far as the vagina is concerned,
any sexual stimulation causes a rush of blood and induces a discharge; the
vagina secretes and grows noticeably in size. As the excitement becomes more intense, a fresh rush of blood causes the external third to dilate, this is what Masters and Johnson call the 'orgasmic plateau'; in other words, it becomes firmer and takes on a more definite shape.
Finally, during orgasm, it contracts frequently and regularly around the orgasmic plateau, and then little by little it goes back to its usual shape.
As for the penis, it follows more or less the same pattern; except that behavioural manifestations are external and there is no mucoid secretion. In response to stimulation the blood vessels dilate and the penis becomes enlarged; then a second rush of blood slightly increases the circumference, mainly around the coronal ridge and during orgasm, like the vagina, it contracts at regular intervals - incidentally, the rhythm of the contractions is the same - then it gradually goes back to its regular shape.
And so, anatomically and physiologically, the two organs are very similar; and yet this has not stopped man from ignoring the vagina and regarding it as a mere inert hole, or from being almost entirely ignorant concerning his own penis, which he sees as a power symbol and an instrument of sexual appropriation.
Quite obviously man does not know his own genitals, and now science has recognised this.
Masters and Johnson, no doubt wishing to make up for lost time, comment:-
The functioning role of the penis is as well established as that of any other organ in the body.
Ironically, there is no organ about which more misinformation has been perpetrated.
The penis constantly has been viewed but rarely seen. The organ has been venerated, reviled and misrepresented with intent in art, literature and legend through the centuries...
These 'phallic fallacies' have coloured our arts, and possibly, of even more import to our culture, influenced our behavioural and biological sciences ...
Why?... should the functional role of the penis have been shrouded so successfully by the 'phallic fallacy' concepts?
This, indeed, is one of the great mysteries of biologic science.

Circumcision is not a reasonable substitute for bathing. When your armpits smell badly, you wash them, right? And you wouldn’t cut off your feet if they were sweaty and stinky, would you? Of course not. That would seem ridiculous.
We live in the 21st century and we have access to indoor plumbing.
The old argument about, “Aren’t foreskins difficult to keep clean?” is a tired and overused justification for removing a vital part of the male anatomy.
