MISCONCEPTIONS ABOUT CIRCUMCISION.

(Doctor)  Misconceptions About Circumcision.

“I want my son circumcised so he looks like his Dad.”
I have never met a young man who was distraught about having more or less foreskin than his father.
In my experience, most boys don’t even know if their father is circumcised.

“It will be less painful if we circumcise him as a newborn.”
Newborns experience as much pain as anybody else; they just can’t communicate their pain as well as older children.

“We don’t want him to have to be circumcised when he is older.”
It seems like every family has a horror story about a cousin or great uncle who had a traumatic experience when they were circumcised as an older child or adult.
The reality is that the vast majority of uncircumcised boys have no difficulties, and the chance of needing circumcision for medical reasons later in life is small.

486 DIE.

486 die as greedy traditional surgeons run
initiate schools 'like spaza shops'.

(South Africa)  June 24, 2014.
[A spaza shop is an informal convenience shop business in South Africa, usually run from home. They also serve the purpose of supplementing household incomes of the owners, selling everyday small household items.]

Close to 490 boys have died in initiation schools in three provinces in the past six years and a further 455,628 were hospitalised because of circumcision-related complications, an investigation has revealed.

These findings are contained in a report, released by the Commission for the Protection and Promotion of the Rights of Cultural, Religious and Linguistic Communities in Joburg today.

The report, titled Public Hearings on Initiation Schools in SA shows that boys as young as 12 died of dehydration, septicaemia, gangrene, kidney failure and assault during initiation.

The investigation focused on three provinces – the Eastern Cape, Mpumalanga and Limpopo – where traditional circumcision is an important cultural practice.

The Eastern Cape had the highest number of deaths between 2008 and 2013 – at 401. Mpumalanga followed, with 67 deaths and Limpopo recorded 18 deaths.

Many of the deaths recorded in the Eastern Cape happened in 2009 (91) and last year, when 83 boys died. Mpumalanga also saw a spike during the same years. In 2009, the province recorded 15 deaths and last year the figure shot up to 42.

Commission chairperson Thoko Mkhwanazi-Xaluva said the probe revealed a number of factors that led to the increase in the number of initiate deaths, but the biggest was the commercialisation of the practice by bogus surgeons.

“Many of the illegal [traditional] surgeons are not trained and have no idea what they are doing,” she said.

“All they care about is money. To them, the practice is like running a spaza shop. They mushroom during the circumcision seasons, make money and go underground after that.”

THE VAGINA AND THE PENIS.

The Vagina and the Penis:
Two organs which the male imagination focuses on.

As far as the vagina is concerned, any sexual stimulation causes a rush of blood and induces a discharge; the vagina secretes and grows noticeably in size.
As the excitement becomes more intense, a fresh rush of blood causes the external third to dilate, this is what Masters and Johnson call the 'orgasmic plateau'; in other words, it becomes firmer and takes on a more definite shape.
Finally, during orgasm, it contracts frequently and regularly around the orgasmic plateau, and then little by little it goes back to its usual shape.

As for the penis, it follows more or less the same pattern; except that behavioural manifestations are external and there is no mucoid secretion. In response to stimulation the blood vessels dilate and the penis becomes enlarged; then a second rush of blood slightly increases the circumference, mainly around the coronal ridge and during orgasm, like the vagina, it contracts at regular intervals - incidentally, the rhythm of the contractions is the same - then it gradually goes back to its regular shape.

And so, anatomically and physiologically, the two organs are very similar; and yet this has not stopped man from ignoring the vagina and regarding it as a mere inert hole, or from being almost entirely ignorant concerning his own penis, which he sees as a power symbol and an instrument of sexual appropriation.
Quite obviously man does not know his own genitals, and now science has recognised this.

Masters and Johnson, no doubt wishing to make up for lost time, comment:-
The functioning role of the penis is as well established as that of any other organ in the body.
Ironically, there is no organ about which more misinformation has been perpetrated.
The penis constantly has been viewed but rarely seen. The organ has been venerated, reviled and misrepresented with intent in art, literature and legend through the centuries...
These 'phallic fallacies' have coloured our arts, and possibly, of even more import to our culture, influenced our behavioural and biological sciences ...

Why?... should the functional role of the penis have been shrouded so successfully by the 'phallic fallacy' concepts?
This, indeed, is one of the great mysteries of biologic science.

DO UNCIRCUMCISED GUYS SMELL BAD?

DO UNCIRCUMCISED GUYS SMELL BAD?

Question: I heard that a friend of a friend hooked up with an uncircumcised guy and his penis was nasty. Are all foreskins gross?

Answer: No, foreskins are not gross. However, some men do have poor hygiene, just as some women have poor hygiene.

Let’s discuss.
The urban legends usually start in high school or college. One girl hears a horror story about some random stranger who had a mortifying experience with an intact guy.
The rumor spreads, usually without any proof that this mystery encounter was real. This causes women (and men) to grow up with an ingrained disgust for the foreskin.

Is the foreskin difficult to keep clean?
Circumcision is not a reasonable substitute for bathing. When your armpits smell badly, you wash them, right? And you wouldn’t cut off your feet if they were sweaty and stinky, would you? Of course not. That would seem ridiculous.
We live in the 21st century and we have access to indoor plumbing.
The old argument about, “Aren’t foreskins difficult to keep clean?” is a tired and overused justification for removing a vital part of the male anatomy.

So does the foreskin smell?
When a man is fresh out of the shower, his foreskin is mostly odourless.
It might have a very subtle scent, just as the vagina does.
I want to emphasis scent, not odor. All people have their own unique scent, and their genitals usually smell a bit stronger.
This is a natural part of biology, as the sex organs produce pheromones to attract mates.

CONGRATULATIONS! IT'S A BOY!

CONGRATULATIONS!   IT'S A BOY!  AND THAT MEANS...HE'S GOT A PENIS!  WHICH MEANS... HE'S GOT A FORESKIN!

Now, it may happen that his father doesn't have a foreskin, but don't worry, your son's foreskin is not some kind of python that's going to rise up and strangle him.

About 70% of the males in the world (about 2.1 billion men and boys) have them, and they're very trouble-free.

In fact many men say they greatly enjoy having one and would not willingly part with it.
There are several good reasons for this.

This site differs from others opposed to genital mutilation - its focus is on intactness rather than on circumcision.

It is intended to counteract the "circodoxy": the mindset that the foreskin is an "extra" "flap of skin" and that circumcision is the norm - and the corresponding mindsets that lead to the cutting of girls and intersex people.

IS MY PENIS NORMAL?

IS MY PENIS NORMAL?

Just about every guy wonders how he measures up in the "down-there" department at one time or another.
Here's the lowdown for any guy who's ever worried about whether his penis is a normal size.

There's a fairly wide range of normal penis sizes — just as there is for every other body part. And just like other parts of the body, how a penis appears at different stages of a guy's life varies quite a bit. You wouldn't expect someone who is 11 years old to look the same as someone who's 19.

Guys normally develop at different times. Some may start developing as early as 9. Others may not start developing until 15 or even later. The age at which a guy starts to grow varies from person to person. It all depends on when he enters puberty and his hormones start doing their thing.

Growth in penis size is just one part of puberty, which also includes such changes as pubic hair development, testicular growth, muscle development, and a growth spurt. Late starters almost always catch up fine — they just reach full maturity a little later.

Penises come in different sizes, shapes, and colours. These traits are hereditary, like eye colour or foot size, and there's nothing you can do to change them. Despite what you may hear or read, no special exercises, supplements, or diets will speed up the development process or change a guy's size.

Also, like his feet, a guy's penis may appear smaller to him just because the perspective is different when he's looking down. And there's a lot less difference in penis size between guys when they get an erection than when their penises are relaxed.

In addition to size, guys also wonder about other aspects of how their penises look, such as whether the skin covering the penis is normal or if it's OK for a guy's penis to hang to the left or right (it is!). If you're concerned about how your penis looks, ask your doctor. Guys who are reaching puberty should have regular testicular exams, so that's a good time to ask your doctor any questions.

Taking a ride on the hormonal roller-coaster means lots of changes — and a lot of common worries — for both guys and girls. Just as guys may wonder about how their penises develop, lots of girls ask the same thing about their breasts.

If you're wondering about your development, don't try to compare yourself to your older brother or your best friend — they're probably at a different stage of development than you are anyway. The important thing to remember is that it's OK to not be a mirror image of the guy at the next urinal.

STRANGEST FACTS ABOUT PENISES.

The 10 Strangest Facts About Penises.

Simone de Beauvoir called it “a small person … an alter ego usually more sly … and more clever than the individual.”
Leonardo Da Vinci said it “Has dealings with human intelligence and sometimes displays an intelligence of its own.”
Sophocles said that having one was to be “chained to a madman.”

These great thinkers were referring so exasperatedly, so powerlessly, to none other than the penis. That’s a lot of hype for a body part that can “be seen as something the Creator doodled in an idle moment.”
Then again, our fascination with the penis has long belied its relatively small size (the average one is believed to be 6.2 inches long when erect).
Hickman, a journalist, has written an expansive history of the male member covering everything from biological explanations of its shape and size to analysis of phallic myths.

Even a history of the penis can use some… snipping!
Below, you’ll find the top 10 most surprising facts about the penis —
from monkey-ball implants to broken johnsons.

10. Every penis was a clitoris.
That sounds like the title of a children’s book, doesn’t it? But, seriously, Hickman explains, ”Every penis in the womb starts as a clitoris before hormones ‘sex’ the brain of the to-be male.”
The penis “retains the mark of its female heritage: its dark underskin and the thin ridge or seam, known as the raphe, which runs from scrotum to anus, are remnants of the fusion of the vaginal lips.”

9. Fetuses have erections.
That’s right, and ultrasound scans prove it. “So many newborn males greet the world with an erection that the sexologist William Masters in his earlier obstetric days set himself the challenge of trying to cut the umbilical cord before it happened,” writes Hickman.

8. Before there was Viagra, there were Monkey Balls.
They didn’t have Cialis ads at the turn of the 20th century, but they did have monkey-ball transplants. In order to cure impotence, doctors began experimenting with xenotransplantation: surgically transplanting testicles from goats, chimpanzees and baboons into male humans.
“Thousands of men around the world in the 1920s went under the knife for the supposed benefits of what were known as ‘monkey glands,’” he says. By the way, it didn’t work.

7. Red meat, funky spunk.
Asparagus gets a bad rap for causing gnarly-tasting semen, but “red meat and dairy
produce are said to result in the least pleasant flavour.”
I suspect an information-suppression campaign by Ruth’s Chris.

6. Ejaculate: The low-calorie treat.
Taste aside, semen “contains only one to seven calories,” says Hickman.
That’s about the same as a cup of fresh spinach — but don’t expect to see ejaculate
added to your Weight Watchers points system any time soon.

5. The big-balled cheater.
“Testicular research of a more sociological kind has deduced that men with large testicles are likely to be more unfaithful, the converse being true of men with small testicles,” says Hickman.
Thus, he advises, with tongue firmly planted in cheek: “A woman” — or man, I would add — “seeking a reliable long-term partner might be advised to invest in an orchidometer,” a medical instrument designed for measuring balls.

4. Penises can actually break.
“Every year at least two hundred Americans, and thirty to forty Britons break their erect penis,” writes Hickman. Most do so during “violent intercourse.”
But there are also cases where men snap their member — indeed, Hickman notes that such incidents are accompanied by an audible crack — by falling out of bed with an erection.
The cure for a broken penis? Six weeks of bed rest with a penis splint.

3. Masturbation panic popularized circumcision.
King Louis XVI of France was circumcised because of a too-tight foreskin, which caused the procedure to become “fashionable among the aristocracy,” says Hickman.
But ”what made circumcision common among the proliferating nineteenth-century middle classes on both sides of the Atlantic was the hysteria about masturbation; removing the foreskin helped its prevention, doctors declared, and also cured bed-wetting and other conditions.”

2. The Lorena Bobbitt effect.
When Lorena Bobbitt cut off her husband’s penis, it spawned a “worldwide phenomenon,” says Hickman.
“Across America, and from China to Peru, copycat cases began to occur, with Thailand becoming the epicenter: By the end of the millennium, over a hundred cases had been reported to Thai police, who admitted there were probably many more but the victims preferred to keep their loss to themselves.”
Hickman reports cases of women feeding dismembered penises to farm-life and one wife in India who attached her husband’s severed member to a helium balloon.

1. The world’s largest penis.
The largest penis ever to be medically verified was 13.5 inches long and 6.25 inches in circumference.
Just to put that in perspective, the average vagina is three to four inches deep.
